Vocal Group of the Year
New / Emerging Artist of the Year
Canada’s hottest, yet coolest, new vocal group, Chic Gamine, has been honoured with two Canadian Folk Music Award Nominations. The award nominees were announced in St. John’s, Newfoundland earlier today. The Winnipeg/Montreal based quintet has been together just over a year and is comprised of singers Ariane Jean, Andrina Turenne, Alexa Dirks, Annick Brémault and drummer-percussionist extraordinaire Alexandre “Sacha” Daoud.
Already seasoned live performers and effervescent song makers, the group recently released its debut self titled CD. “Chic Gamine” is spiced with intoxicating musical flavours creating a hybrid of Gospel, Soul, RnB, Doo-Wop, Brazilian forro and French Chanson; all liberally doused with the sibylline insouciance unique only to Chic Gamine!
The two CFMA nominations came in the Vocal Group of the Year and New/Emerging Artist categories. While Chic Gamine is honoured and excited to be nominated for the first time, the entire group wishes to congratulate all the CFMA nominees in all categories and wishes everyone the best of luck!
