NEWS RELEASE
A Radio-Canada Initiative Devoted to Supporting and Promoting Emerging Musical Talent
RÉVÉLATIONS RADIO-CANADA MUSIQUE
Montreal, September 3, 2009—Radio-Canada is pleased to announce today the seven Révélations Radio-Canada Musique who will enjoy special support and enhanced visibility on all Radio-Canada platforms in 2009–10.
The Révélations for the chanson genre are Gaspesian Guillaume Arsenault, Gaspé-born Montrealer Marie-Pierre Arthur, the group Chic Gamine from Winnipeg, and the Montreal group Chinatown; for jazz, Vancouver bass player Brandi Disterheft; for world music, Haitian-born Montrealer and singer/multi-instrumentalist Wesley Louissaint; and for classical, Trois-Rivières harpist Valérie Milot.
This year’s Révélations were chosen by juries made up of Radio-Canada specialists, along with music and industry professionals, all experts in their respective genres (from Spectra, Musicaction, Sorties Jazznights.com, Jeunesses Musicales du Canada, Musique Multi-Montréal, Nuits d’Afrique, Le Devoir, etc.). Highly specific criteria help guide the juries’ assessment: creativity, innovation, musicality, discipline and technical elements. All candidates also have to have released at least one CD.
Kicked off in fall 2008 as an element of the Radio-Canada Musique launch, Révélations Radio-Canada Musique is part of a larger, concerted effort by the public broadcaster to support emerging Canadian musical talent across all genres.
A one-of-a-kind artistic partnership, this initiative provides an outstanding showcase for these talented up-and-coming artists. For a full season, these artists will be featured on a number of radio and television programs, as well as on the Web. Radio-Canada.ca’s Musique section will contain a comprehensive profile of each artist, with bios, interviews, and more.
Radio-Canada is proud and excited to invite you to follow its seven Révélations Radio-Canada Musique throughout 2009–10 on all its platforms. Discover the talent and creative process of a choice selection of homegrown emerging artists who will figure prominently on our music scene for many years to come.
